GILGIT: The inclusion my name of any other nationalist leader in the Fourth Schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 is yet another tactic of the rulers to suppress the voice of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

This was stated by prominent nationalist and rights activist Mumtaz Hussain Nagri while talking to the media here. It may be mentioned that the names of hundreds of people in the Gilgit city have bene put in the police watch list under the ATA.

Mr Nagri however said that this was aimed at coercing the nationalist leaders toes the government lines and stop raising voice for the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He said that he had been struggling for the rights of the masses in a democratic and peaceful way. He said that he always worked for the sectarian harmony and peace in the region. The inclusion of his name in the ATA watch list was illegal and made with a mala fide intention. He said that with the support of the lawyers bodies, he would fight his case I the court of law and provide it wrong. He said those who had recommended his name for inclusion in the list would be taken to the court to provide their allegations.

Mr Nagri also said that the time when the rulers used such tactics to harass and intimidate the people was over and now the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have become more aware of their rights and would reject such tactics. The government would get nothing by including my name in the watch list as I have never done anything wrong rather worked for the promotion of peace and unity among the masses. He asked the provincial government to review its decision and remove his name from the list.
