SKARDU: Citizens collected money to pay dues of a prisoner from Sindh, securing his freedom.
According to details, the prisoner, identified as Himat Chandio, had been languishing in a prison in police custody in Skardu. He had taken a loan from a local after being cheated out of money by a resident of Rawalpnidi. He couldn’t pay the loan back to the local, who took him to the police and registered a case against him.
A citizens’ campaign led by renowned social worker and poet Zeeshan Mehdi was launched to help Himat Chandio out. Around 120,000 rupees were collected to pay the loan back, securing freedom for Himat Chandio. Some of the local donors were also honored for their act of generosity.
